The Heck Yeah photo camp in Joshua Tree National Park was one of the coolest and rewarding experiences for me. Joshua Tree holds a special place in my heart since I got engaged there last year. When my friend and fellow photog Chelsea called me and said we had to go to this camp I immediately bought my ticket for the retreat (which sold out in like 3 hours). There were going to be some amazing speakers at the retreat so I knew I was in for an amazing learning and networking experience. The retreat couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time for as well because I was in the middle of trying to rebrand my business as well as take my photography in a whole other direction creatively.
Chelsea and I plus our friend Kim all headed out to the retreat together. We also met up with some fellow Floridians. There were about 130 other photographers attending the retreat which was a little overwhelming for me at first. As much as I am an outgoing person I am also very shy, I know it’s a weird combo. There were photographers from all over the US and the world attending. We spent our days soaking in all of the speakers words then in the afternoons we would go explore and take pictures. I spent the coldest night I have ever experienced out in the park shooting long exposures, it was 25 degrees (I live in South Florida so I cannot handle this type of cold!)
In the 3 1/2 days I was there I learned more about myself and where I wanted to take my business then I have in years. It was refreshing, inspiring and opened my eyes to knew techniques and also ways to run my business. This blog post is a collection of images taken throughout the camp as well a few from some adventures I went on after camp. I am excite to implement what I have learned from the retreat and see where my business goes this year!
