Blake and I had been trying to get out to California for years together. Neither of us had done the northern part and so we decided it was now or never and booked our tickets. While planning this trip I had no idea my life was going to be changed forever.
I am lucky enough to be able to travel a lot with work and sometimes Blake gets to tag along. This time Blake wanted to plan the whole trip so I let him (reluctantly of course). We started our trip in San Jose, where my half sister lives. It was really great getting to hang with family and check out new places. She took us to see the red woods which was incredible. To see those trees in person was something I will never forget.
After San jose we headed over to Monterey to vists Blake’s childhood friends Matt and visit one of my bucket list place Big Sur. We got to check out Matt’s community garden he over see’s, which was filled with all kinds of delicious fruits and veggies. Afterwards we headed out to Big Sur for the day. The fact that Matt has this place pretty much in his back yard is so amazing. If I had Big Sur so close I would be there everyday. I can’t even put into words how amazing that place is.
After visiting with family and friends we headed down the coast to a little coastal town called Cambria to stay for two nights. It was a quiet town with the cutest inns everywhere. This is also where Hearst Castle is, which we headed up to one day. The Castle is seriously out of the world gorgeous. While in Cambria Blake surprised me and told me that we would be staying in Joshua Tree for a couple of days. I literally started crying because this was another bucket list item. I had always wanted to go there to photograph the stars and we just happened to time it with the new moon and Perseids meteor shower!
After Cambria we went to Burbank to visit Blake’s sister before heading to Joshua tree. I couldn’t even sleep I was so excited! The next day we made the drive out to Joshua Tree and immediately headed out on a hike. Blake was rushing me a little and I was wondering why is was being like that. Of course it was because he was about to propose to me! At the end of our day hiking we decided to climb one last part of the park. It was a little sketchy and at first I was refusing to climb up this one certain park he wanted to get to. Finally he got me up there and we set up the go pro to take a picture of the amazing view. Next thing I know Blake is down on one knee asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. Well, I blacked out and don’t remember what happened next but luckily we have it all on video from the go pro (Blake was sneaky and turned it on video instead of still mode). It is a day I will never forget. We sat up on top of the mountain just taking it all in. Afterwards we headed back to our house we were staying in and had some wine and watched the amazing meteor shower right in our back yard (A huge meteor went right over us at one point). I know it sounds like something from a movie, I still have to pinch myself. We ate late night Mexican food from a 24 hour Mexican place and I wouldn’t have ended the night any other way!
I can’t wait for the next adventure to California! This one was one for the books!
